Study into impact of advanced MS on the family unit published
15 March 2010
An MS Trust funded study exploring family relationships and support needs when adapting to a relative's advanced MS has been published in the journal Psychology and Health.
Dr Ceri Bowen, International Research Fellow at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, led this study which highlighted the need for greater awareness of the impact of MS on family members and the ongoing challenges they face.
Pam Macfarlane, Chief Executive of the MS Trust said, 'The support needs of family members of people with MS are often overlooked and in many cases family members are unaware of the support that exists. This study highlights the effect MS can have on the whole family and the need for a more family-centred approach in the delivery of MS care.'
