2 Seater Dragster thrill ride at Santa Pod
Karen Aston is as passionate about drag racing as she is about raising funds to support people with MS. Karen raised £960 by taking part in a sponsored dragster ride at Santa Pod in June 2009 and she tells us about it below.
"After a fantastic first visit to Santa Pod race way for the Easter Thunder Ball 2009, I was just SO IMPRESSED. The sport, staff and facilities, especially for disabled people, were ALL FANTASTIC. As someone that was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 15 years ago I then decided to see if I could, some how, get on the drag racing track too!
"Darren Prentice from Santa Pod Raceway in Northampton was only happy to help and kindly arranged a passenger thrill ride in Santa Pod's 2-Seater Dragster, at The Summer Nationals (14/6/2009). This incredible 9.8 litre racing dragster produces 1000 horse power! After my doctor gave the go ahead, there was no looking back. The ride was TRULY AMAZING and I was also blessed to have a top UK racing driver, Jon Webster and his team all looking after me before and after my 7 seconds of superb drag racing.
"Nitro FM, Santa Pod's radio station, were also so supportive and gave me an opportunity to talk about multiple sclerosis and the MS Trust, and to meet other top UK drag racing teams, some of which also support the MS Trust. This is fantastic motor racing with real, friendly people that are always happy to help.
As a result of this first drag racing experience, I want to get back to Santa Pod as soon as possible to plan future fundraising events. I hope, working with Nitro FM and top UK racing teams, to continue this amazing activity. Additionally, Gordon Northway's team now has a drag racing car & truck "THE EDGE", which will be racing in 2010 in support of the MS Trust. How exciting, please come and watch!" Karen Aston
