Going green at Christmas...
John Benson has raised £2,240 over the past five years by competing in a annual sprout-eating competition!
John said, "As you may know, every year I take part in The Great Brussels Sprout Eating Race, a duel of great ceremony that takes place at a friend's birthday lunch in December.
"The race has two of us attempting to be the first to down the veritable mountain of Brussels sprouts that each of us is presented with. This is, as you can imagine, a race where intelligence, strategy, dexterity, agility and supreme physical fitness are to the fore. The rest of the lunch attendees bet on the outcome.
"I am very pleased to be able to report that once again I triumphed, (I think now for the 5th year running). My opponent was drained mentally and emotionally with half a dozen sprouts still looming large on his plate as I cleared the final one from mine.
"I am always fortified in my efforts by the knowledge that if I win the monies pledged will go to the MS Trust (as they have for the last 5 years). I am sure that you will spend it wisely now you know the great human effort required to raise it!"
We wish John the best of luck in this year's race!
