Bowled over by success!
John and Joan Graham of Kirkbampton in Carlisle raised an astonishing £7,000 for the MS Trust through a sponsored bowling tournament.
Mr and Mrs Graham, who are both in their 70s, decided to support the MS Trust because their daughter-in-law, Jennifer, is affected by multiple sclerosis.
Ninety six bowlers took part in the hotly contested tournament, some of whom are of national standard, with a team from Silloth triumphing as the eventual winner. The competition was followed by a buffet, race night and raffle draw and the overall event was such a success that the whole Graham family have been praised across the local community for their hard work and commitment.
Mr and Mrs Graham's son, John, said of his parents efforts: "The amount of money raised is highly commendable by any standards, but for two septuagenarians is quite remarkable."
The Graham family handed over their £7,000 cheque to MS specialist nurses Sheila Stoddart and Juliet Greenwood (pictured below) who represented the MS Trust on the day.
