A to Z of MS End stage MS
Whilst multiple sclerosis is not considered to be a fatal or terminal condition, some people may develop disabilities that make them vulnerable to serious complications.
End stage MS is a term that health professionals sometimes use to describe the phase in an individual's life with MS when their disabilities result in severe limitations and they require support for most activities of daily living. At this stage disabilities can cause life-threatening complications such as repeat respiratory infections or pressure sores.
Some of the signs which might indicate end stage MS include physical decline, weight loss and multiple health conditions (co-morbidities).
Dying Matters is a website that aims to encourage people to talk about dying, death and bereavement with their families and friends and to help people discuss their wishes towards the end of their lives, including where they want to die and their funeral plans.
